Some masks may show heavy patina, sometimes including African repairs. You will receive this exact mask.
The Bwa people, also known as Bobo Ule, carve masks which represent protective bush spirits. Small masks are often referred to as Passport masks due to a tradition of carrying a small mask to represent your tribe while traveling.
Masks are not always worn over the face; they are often worn on top of the head, and the dancer bends over to show the face of the mask to onlookers. The masks are painted with a clay paint and smoked over a special fire to give them the aged look.
