About This Item

Songye Kifwebe Mask Shield

The Songye tribe resides in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Songye masks and shields are characterized by their dramatic striped patterning and bold carving.

As in both traditional and modern art, Songye carvers use color symbolically to further communicate the nature of their work. White stands for purity, peace and other positive traits, black for darkness and evil while red is symbolic of courage, danger, or stamina.

You will receive the exact shield pictured here.
