Some masks may show heavy patina, sometimes including African repairs. You will receive this exact mask.
Dan masks, from Ivory Coast, are traditionally used for many purposes in various ceremonies and events. "Deangle" masks such as these are used by members of a Dan village when they interact as ambassadors with the camp of the Go initiation society.
Deangle masks can be identified by slit shaped eyes, which are symbolic of feminine aspects in much of West African art. Open eyes depict a male figure. A dark patina and fine features are also present and often accompanied by fiber or cowrie shells.
